Sixth Regular Session of the SPIBU Assembly Held

On Thursday, April 26, the Assembly of the Student Parliament of International Burch University convened in session.

At the sixth regular session thereof, which is also the last of this Assembly, four of six members were present – Nejla Babić, Amer Kurtović, Jasna Nuhić and Haris Pandžić, while Jasmin Novalić and Lamija Palalija were absent.

The Assembly considered and consequently accepted or adopted, eight documents – the Decision on the Public Work of the Student Parliament and the Freedom of Access to Information of the Student Parliament, the Decision on Awarding the “The Student” Award, Work Reports of student representatives, the Decision on Dismissing Student Representatives in the Bodies of the University and Organizational Units of the University, the Decision on Appointing Student Representatives to the Bodies of the University and Organizational Units of the University, the Financial Report of the Student Parliament and the Work Report of the Student Parliament.

The Decision on the Public Work of the Student Parliament and the Freedom of Access to Information of the Student Parliament confirms the right of all students to access all information of the Student Parliament and the obligation of the Student Parliament to make public all information under its control, creates a mechanism by which all interested parties, and especially students, can freely access all information of the Student Parliament, enumerates the specific instances in which access to information can be denied and notes the expectation of the Student Parliament for all other institutions to reciprocate in terms of providing unfettered access to information under its control in accordance with the law and internal regulations of the institution.

The secretary of the Student Parliament is responsible for processing and replying to all requests in a timely manner, as well as executing the operative parts of this Decision in a timely manner.

The Assembly, after the third round of secret voting, chose Sabina Halilović, Hata Kujraković and Jasna Nuhić to receive the “The Student” award for their contribution to the student body of International Burch University, considering them model students. The competition was tight, with a total of 13 nominated students; however, their contribution matters related to student obligations, the student standard and students rights were determinate in the Assembly’s decision.  The award comprises of a certificate, a plaque and other fitting prizes and will be bestowed upon Ms. Halilović, Ms. Kujraković and Ms. Nuhić by the president of the Student Parliament at a public ceremony soon.

Two student representatives in the bodies of the University and the organizational units of the University, namely Amer Kurtović as the student representative of the first cycle of study in the Senate and Jasna Nuhić as the student representative in the Council of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, presented their Work Reports for the previous six months. Other members of the Assembly greeted their active participation in the body they were appointed to and, after a brief discussion, adopted the Work Reports without amendment.

The Assembly dismissed three representatives in the bodies of the University and organizational units of the University – Sabina Halilović as the student representative of the second cycle of study in the Senate, Nejla Babić as the student representative in the Council of the Faculty of Education and Humanities and Lamija Palalija as the student representative in the Council of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences – for failing to follow the Instruction to Student Representatives to Compose Work Reports, which was adopted in February and which instructed them to compose work reports until the last session of the I Assembly.

The Assembly then appointed temporary student representatives to the bodies of the University and organizational units of the University – Ina Salihović as the student representative of the second cycle of study in the Senate, Amila Dautbašić as the student representative of the first cycle of study in the Council of the Faculty of Education and Humanities and Mersiha Jaskić as the student representative of the first cycle of study in the Council of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. Their terms will last until the end of the term of the Assembly which appointed them, at which time the following Assembly will dismiss them and appoint new student representatives or re-appoint them.

The Student Parliament president submitted a Financial Report for the academic year 2017/18, which the Assembly adopted without deliberation. The revenues of the Student Parliament, which were a mix of funding from the University and donation, exactly match the expenditures of the Student Parliament. The expenditure items were a fee for the registration of the Student Parliament as an association of citizens and the production of a stamp, both of which are legally required.

The Student Parliament president also submitted a Work Report for the academic year 2017/18, which the Assembly adopted in full after deliberating about the correlation of realized activities and the goals adopted at the Constitutive Session of the Assembly in November and the degree to which the goals were achieved.
